Years 3&4 Writing Assessment and Moderation: Cross-school moderation
The journey towards end of KS2 standards requires all teachers to have a secure understanding of the expectations for their own year group, as well as an overall awareness of the progression across KS2. This series of sessions is designed to give lower KS2 teachers the opportunity to consider the expectations for writing in their phase and teaching strategies to support their pupils towards them, as well as to moderate writing with Year 3/4 colleagues from other schools. The sessions are suitable for both Year 3 and Year 4 teachers, either as colleagues from the same school, or working independently. English subject leaders are also welcome to attend in order for them to gain an overview of progress towards end of lower KS2 writing expectations.
Session 3 – Cross-school moderation
In the final session, teachers will have an opportunity to moderate and discuss a range of pupils’ writing, agreeing or refining judgements with colleagues from other schools and discussing next steps to secure standards to support end of year teacher assessments.
• Unpick the National Curriculum requirements for writing in years 3 and 4
• Consider how these requirements are applied in the context of writing
• Explore effective teaching approaches to develop and secure pupils’ writing skills towards the requirements
• Participate in moderation of pupils’ writing in order to discuss, refine and secure judgements and next steps
Due to the interactive nature of the session, a ticket admits one delegate only.
